GI JOE FIGURINES

 

GI Joes from the 1960’s are 12”tall and have a painted head, they can easily be identified by the markings on the right side of their buttocks.  There are three possible markings for GI Joes made in the United States as follows:

The original set (starting in 1964) of four GI Joes were an Action Soldier, Action Sailor, Action Marine and Action Pilot. In 1965 a Black Action Soldier was added.

 

In 1966 two addition soldiers were added for the “Soldiers of the World” sets.  The first was a Asian Faced figurine and the second, a “Nordic” look figurine.

In 1967 talking GI Joes were introduced (Talking Action Soldier, Talking Action Sailor, Talking Action Pilot and Talking Action Marine) as well as the first and only girl GI Joe Nurse. 

 

In 1969 four additional figurines were introduced, an Adventurer, a Black Adventurer, an Aquanaut and a Talking Astronaut

 

The Adventure Team series of figurines was introduced in 1970 and featured GI Joes with real-life hair and beards.  The first series consisted of eight different GI Joes, Talking Adventurer Team Commander, Land Adventurer, Sea Adventurer, Air Adventurer, Black Adventurer, Talking Astronaut, Man of Action and Talking Man of Action.

In 1973 an addition figurine was added, a Black Talking Adventure Team Commander

 

In 1974 the figurines were introduced with a Kung Fu Grip (KFG) hands and introduced eight more figurines (all with the Kung Fu Grip), Land Adventurer, Sea Adventurer, Air Adventurer, Black Adventurer, Man of Action, Talking Adventure Team Commander, Black Talking Adventure Team Commander and a Talking Man of Action.

 

Things really started to change starting in 1975 when they made the Atomic Man Figurine.

 

The final figures were introduced in 1976 which were marketed as “Super Joe” and featured a Land Adventurer, a Black Adventurer, Man of Action, Eagle Eye Land Commander, Eagle Eye Man of Action, Sea Adventurer, Air Adventurer, Talking Commander, Black Talking Commander, Talking Man of Action, Bullet Man, an Intruder Commander and an Intruder Warrior.

 

CLOTHING TAGS

 

The original tags are sewed into the back collar of the shirt or jacket, the rear of pants and inside on many accessories.  There are eight versions as follows:

ACCESSORIES, VEHICLES AND SETS

 

 

Over the period of 1964 to 1978 many accessories, vehicles and play sets were introduced.  Many of these are identified by markings with “Hasbro ® Japan” or “Hasbro ® Hong Kong” although there are numerous variations and exceptions that were sold over this period.  I would be pleased to answer any specific questions you may have.
